Exhausterwhelmulated - It's All Too Much
I recently came across the word “exhausterwhelmulated” - a mash-up of exhausted, overwhelmed and overstimulated - and I thought, Yes, that’s how so many people are feeling right now.
I totally get it. That was me once. (But not anymore.)
Something happened during the COVID period.
We were forced to slow down.
Many of us made some big changes - simplifying our lives, reevaluating what truly mattered, and stepping away from things that drained our energy.
But as life gradually returned to “normal”, we’ve been pulled back into old patterns and habits. And now, it’s all too much again.
Especially for women.
The Weight Of Modern Life
Women wear so many hats -career, caregivers, relationships, life admin, emotional labor - and we are expected to juggle it all flawlessly. Life IS busy. The constant stream of notifications, emails, and expectations never stops.
And then, there’s the scrolling.
We know it’s overstimulating. We know it’s feeding our nervous system more information than it can handle. And yet, we do it anyway - seeking distraction, connection and escape.
Jon Kabat-Zinn describes overwhelm as “the sense that life is unfolding faster than the human nervous system and psyche can manage well”. When we push beyond our capacity for too long, the symptoms of nervous system dysregulation start to appear and especially if we are neurodivergent:
* Anxiety and depression
* Burnout
* Insomnia
* Emotional overwhelm
* Chronic exhaustion
Sound familiar?
The good news is you can build nervous system capacity.
Here’s what I want you to know: You don’t have to live like this.
Overwhelm isn’t just about doing too much - it’s also about not having the capacity to hold all that life throws at you. The good news is that your nervous system is adaptable. Just like you can build strength in your body, you can train your nervous system to be more resilient, flexible, and responsive - so that stress and overwhelm don’t take over.
A lot of the mainstream advice right now focuses on quick fixes - cold plunges, extreme breathwork, intense fasting. While these can be helpful, they can also be too much, too fast - especially for someone already in a state of burnout or trauma.
In my classes and private sessions, I focus on gentle, sustainable, daily practices that work WITH your body, not against it.
A More Sustainable Approach To Nervous System Health
I teach simple, effective practices that you can use daily - without needing an hour of time or a dramatic lifestyle overhaul.
These include;
* Soft, deep breathing (without force)
* Grounding techniques that bring you back into your body
* Movement that soothes, not over stimulates
* Restorative practices that help your body feel safe again
I believe in building long-term nervous system resilience, not just finding ways to “push through” another day.
You Don’t Have To Do This Alone
If you’re feeling Exhausterwhelmulated, please know, you’re not broken. You don’t need to just “try harder” or “be more disciplined”. You need support, rest, and tools that truly work for you.
If you are looking for a calm, trauma-informed space where you can rebuild your nervous system and reconnect with yourself, I invite you to join me.
My classes are designed as a container of care and support - a place where you can slow down, breathe, and remember what it feels like to NOT be running on empty.
You don’t have to live in survival mode. There is another way.
